April 17, 2009 ~ Around 2140 hours Denver Firefighters were called to the 1900 block of South Zuni Street for a reported explosion. First arriving 23's a pair & Chief 7 found a wood frame single family dwelling destroyed and in a pile of debris. Companies secured a water supply, advanced one line and conducted a quick primary search the best they could. A heavy odor of natural gas was present prompting crews to stay back from the structure. Xcel Energy responded to the scene and spent several hours locating the gas supply line, digging it up and shutting down the gas from the street. A secondary search was planned for the daylight hours, although the home is thought to be unoccupied. For the full photo gallery click here. Eric Hurst Photos
