May 17th, 2009 ~ Denver Firefighters were alerted to a structure fire in the 100 block of South Eliot Street. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from a single story structure with a basement. Heavy fire was found in the basement which had extended to the main level and outside the home as well. Exposures were saved and the fire was knocked. As firefighters were doing a secondary search of the home they found 2 small dogs that had been consumed by fire conditions. A third dog was able to escape the residence and was taken into care by animal control. Investigations and searches for extension were conducted while Red Cross helped the displaced residence. Extra crews were called into rehab first due crews the fire stayed a first alarm.
