November 21, 2009 ~ Around 1730 Wheat Ridge Firefighters were called to a reported structure fire at 6855 West 33rd Avenue. Companies laid in and arrived to find nothing showing from a one story, single family dwelling with evacuation. After making entry crews found light smoke conditions, initially thought to be caused by burnt food. 10 minutes after the initial call, further investigation lead firefighters into an Alpha Side bedroom where smoke conditions became heavier and the room quickly flashed. The crew inside lost their primary egress and transmitted a Mayday, prompting an immediate 2nd Alarm and mutual aid from West Metro. Two firefighters were rescued and a total of three were transported to Lutheran Medical Center with minor injuries, they were later released. The fire was knocked and contained to a front bedroom and the exterior of the home, several animals were also rescued. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. (Rick Luebke Photo)
